Truncation
Truncation with the character * retrieves variations of the search term.
Use the truncation character at the end (right-hand truncation) or in the middle of search terms:
- farm* Finds: farm, farms, farmer, farming.
- colo*r Finds: colour, color.
Replace any single character with ?, either inside or at the right end of a word. Multiple wildcards can be used to represent multiple characters:
- nurse? Finds: nurse, nurses, and nursed.
- sm?th Finds: smith and smyth.
Basic search
- A search for it systems is the same as searching for it AND systems.
- Use quotation marks (“ ”) to search for an exact phrase “it systems”
- It is possible to mark if you want Full text or Peer reviewed materials - or both at the same time.
Advanced search
Use ADVANCED Search to create a search that is more precise.
1. Use the Drop down menu to choose search fields e.g. Abstract, Author, Document title or Identifier (keyword).
2. Combine words and fields with Boolean operators AND, OR & NOT and other functions.
Refine search results
- On the result page you can choose a detailed view.
- You can narrow your results by adding more search terms (AND)
- Limit to Full text, source type, language, publication year ect.
- ProQuest records each search that you conduct during your current session. This search history is presented on the Recent Searches page. Recent searches remain available for your current session only.
- Save searches to keep them available during future session.
Options
1. You can translate the Abstract or the full text from English to your own language.
2. You can print search results.
3. Click Save, and make an Export/Save selection from the drop-down list to open the Export/Save popup. Export document citations to: a formatted text file, such as RIS, - to use for Mendeley ect.
4. Create an account if you want to save, manage, and organize the content and supporting materials you find and create in ProQuest. You can include documents, searches, search alerts, RSS feeds, and more in My Research/Account.
