This guide applies to all students at VIA and explains how to post a message on the MitVIA message board.
You can create a message board post for your fellow students in these categories:
- Student jobs
- Volunteer work
- Marketplace (buy, sell, swap)
- Housing
- Etc.
Posts can be created by all students at VIA. Remember that English-language posts must be posted on MyVIA.
- Log on to MyVIA
- Click on 'News' up in the right corner
- Change the view to 'Bulletin board'
- Choose 'New post'
Fill in the post
- Select filtering parameters
- Category (only one)
- City (one or more)
- Programme (one or more)
- Fill in the title. This will be the title of your post. It can be a maximum of 80 characters.
- Put an expiration date on your post. Always consider how long your post is relevant. For example, if it contains a deadline, it's a good idea to set an expiration date. Posts are automatically deleted 6 months after the creation date.
- Write your post. You can write text, create links, insert images and add PDFs (only PDFs - no other file types). Be careful not to insert images with text in your post, as such images are not web accessible. If you have to insert images with text, always make sure that the same text that appears in the image also appears as text in the message itself. Images must be 960x480 px - see how to crop images to the format requirements.
- Click on 'Create post'
A good headline
- Make sure your headline appeals to your audience (otherwise they won't click - and it is better to reach few than none).
Short and precise
- Write short and to the point. Create several shorter and more targeted messages rather than one long message.
Watch out for photo's containing text
- Be careful not to insert images with text in your message, as such images are not web accessible. If you have to insert images with text always make sure that the same text that appears in the image also appears as text in the message itself. This way you ensure that users don't miss important information.
Images in the right format
- Remember to adjust your images to the correct format. For posts, images should have a format of 960x480 px.
- Find the image you want to crop and open it in the 'Pictures' app (default on Windows).
- Click on the three dots in the top bar.
- Click 'Resize image'.
- Start by adjusting the width of your image (e.g. 960 px).
- Tap 'Save' and save the image.
- Re-open the image in the 'Photos' app.
- Tap the 'Edit image' icon in the top bar.
- Select 'Crop'.
- Now drag and crop your image to the correct height (e.g. 480 px).
- You can see the image size at the bottom.
- Tap "Save" to save your image.
Relevance
- Remember that all messages and posts must always be relevant to all or most of your fellow students.
Remember, we have MitVIA and MyVIA
- That means that Danish messages/posts must be posted on MitVIA, while English messages/posts must be posted on MyVIA
The ending
- End your message/post with contact and/or actionable information (e.g. a link) to make sure your fellow students know what to do after reading the message/post
